HD travel checklist

You do dialysis regularly and go on vacation? Cool! Not sure if you packed everything or if you forgot something? Here you will find a detailed description of all the important documents that you should have with you either in digital form or in your suitcase.
Do a medical check beforehand
Consult your dialysis doctor
Get a doctor's letter from your home dialysis (necessary for your vacation dialysis center)
Check your vaccinations for completeness (also for your vacation destination)
Check with your health insurance how the cost coverage works
- It is best to have this confirmed in writing. You can find more information about this in the Miku app.
Get written confirmation from your vacation dialysis center:
Amount of the payer's dialysis fee (abroad)
Definition and scope of services (e.g., whether the center also offers hemodiafiltration (HDF), if that is recommended for you)
Other costs incurred for your treatment
Dialysis treatment with corresponding treatment dates and times
Necessary other medical care
Required medications (during dialysis).
Check your travel insurance
Private international health insurance
Travel cancellation insurance
Additional documents should also be in your hand luggage:
Your medication needed for the trip (e.g. during a flight)
Health insurance card (German or European (EHIC)
Emergency ID card
All certificates of permission to carry dialysis medication & supplies.
Don't forget to also take care of transportation to and from the dialysis center. Your vacation dialysis center should usually have experience with this and be able to help.
You packed all these things and didn't forget your clothes? Then you are probably ready for your vacation anyway. Have fun and enjoy your rest!
