PD travel checklist
Not sure if you've packed everything or if you've forgotten something? Here you will find a detailed description of all the important documents that you should have with you when traveling as a PD patient, either digitally or in your suitcase.
Basically, you should think about the following things in advance of a trip (already when booking) with PD:
Check the hygiene and storage conditions of the dialysis materials at the destination
Order the necessary dialysis materials from the dialysis center 6 weeks before the travel date
Agree fixed dates for the delivery of your necessary dialysis materials with your vacation accommodation, and request written confirmation of the delivery of the materials from suppliers in advance
Ask for local emergency contact addresses at the dialysis center.
Make a medical check beforehand
Consult your dialysis doctor
Get a doctor's letter from your home dialysis
Check your vaccinations for completeness (also for your vacation destination)
Private health insurance abroad
Travel cancellation insurance
Additional items that should also be in your carry-on luggage:
Your medications needed for the trip
Health insurance card (German or European (EHIC) - Emergency ID card
All certificates of permission to carry dialysis medications & supplies (important when traveling by air).
You packed all these things and didn't forget your clothes either? Then you are probably ready for your vacation anyway! Have fun and enjoy your rest!
